Where to eat in Stratford before the curtain goes up

The hardest part of a theatre night in Stratford is eating early enough. These six manage it.

For something quick

The RSC rooftop restaurant does a two-course pre-theatre menu and knows exactly when to bring the bill. Book it when you book your tickets, not after.

For a proper dinner

Salt on Church Street is the best cooking in town and has one sitting before the theatre. Book weeks ahead. Lambs on Sheep Street is the reliable alternative and takes walk-ins on a quiet Tuesday.

For a pub

The Old Thatch Tavern is the oldest building in Stratford and does a good pie. The Dirty Duck, by the theatre, is where the actors drink after the show — go afterwards, not before.

For a late supper

Very little serves past ten. Our bar does a cheese and charcuterie plate until midnight for residents, which has rescued a lot of post-curtain appetites.
