A warm welcome awaits

Three generations of the same family have run the Riverside, and the habits show: real keys, a fire lit in the lounge from October, and someone on the desk who knows which table at the RSC restaurant has the best view.

The house was built in 1847 as a wool merchant’s home and became a hotel in 1952. We refurbished all fifteen rooms in 2024 — new bathrooms and beds throughout — while leaving the sash windows, cornices and the crooked back staircase exactly as they were.

Why Stay With Us?

Two minutes from the theatre

You can finish dinner, walk to the RSC and still be in your seat before the house lights drop.

Always cheapest direct

We match any price you find elsewhere and knock 5% off it. No booking fee, ever.

Family run since 1952

Three generations, the same family, and a team that mostly measures its service in decades.

Fifteen rooms, no two alike

Small enough that we know your name by the second morning and how you take your coffee by the third.

Perfectly placed for exploration

Everything Stratford is known for sits within a ten-minute walk: Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Holy Trinity Church, the Royal Shakespeare and Swan theatres, and the canal basin where the narrowboats turn.

Further out, Warwick Castle is twenty minutes by car, the northern Cotswolds half an hour, and Birmingham Airport forty minutes. We keep bus and train times at reception and are happy to book a taxi.
